On Thursday, November 24, 2022, my wife and I celebrated our 49th wedding anniversary. And yes, we were married on Thanksgiving, which is why I’ve always said she had married a turkey! Luckily, and maybe because I’m such a handsome guy, Terrie stayed with me through over 40 years in the nuclear industry going from the nuclear Navy to America’s commercial nuclear program. In the past, we had some great family get-togethers during Thanksgiving when our parents were alive, but since they’ve been gone the get-togethers just didn’t seem that great – until this one. Because of the COVID pandemic we had primarily only saw our kids via video calls. This was the first time in over two years where we were finally able to get everyone together again. Being that they lived quite a distance away from us in Delaware and Georgia, and that most now were adults with jobs, getting time off to travel to our house in Pennsylvania was a quite a challenge for them. Something I remember all too well when I was still working and had to try to get back to our parent’s house for a quick holiday stopover. But, thank goodness (no pun intended), they all safely made it and the Thanksgiving food (provided by the local historic US Hotel) was especially good. After the final group left to go back home, my wife and I talked and both reflected that this was the best Thanksgiving family reunion we have had in a long time. And hopefully the kids will remember it as well. We all had such a great time being together again. And the hugs! Nothing can replace the hugs. It just reinforces the old saying that life is about family and that family should always come first, because you can’t get the kind of feelings that Terrie and I now enjoy in any other way.
