On Wednesday, March 12, 2025, a ceremony was held for the nuclear fast attack submarine USS Billfish (SSN-676) and her crews at the dedication of a ‘Billfish Bench’ at the Cold War Submarine Memorial in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, located just outside the Patriots Point Naval Museum. Below are some pictures captured during the ceremony. Shipmate Ron Sparling lead the event and provided commentary throughout the ceremony. And after we did the pledge of allegiance, to my surprise, my Son’s wife, Tracey (Hall) Reed, sang the National Anthem for us with no accompaniment. She did great. My presentation was rather long and I tried to reduce it, but it was so good (ha ha) that I seemed to go on forever. Unfortunately the presentations were disrupted at times by a lawn maintenance crew who ran their mowers and leaf blowers nearby, and also by a helicopter who appeared directly overhead as if they were checking on what we were up to. But hopefully everyone in attendance could still hear and make out what we were saying. After my presentation, Ron dedicated the bench with a prayer and closed out the session. It was an honorable and special occasion that day and I’m glad my granddaughter Samantha Reed was there to film it for us. Hope you can enjoy the video on the Billfish website and/or its Facebook page.
